Google changes it name to Topeka

by Sarah Hebert | April 1st, 2010

Just opened my web browser and to my suprise my state capital had replaced the google logo on my trusted search page.  I initially thought that perhaps they were auto-generating the title based on my location and were about 60 miles off… I thought perhaps they should update their mapping software.. and then I read more and found out that this is not some crazy “big brother is watching you” stunt gone wrong but actually a different kind of “april fools” stunt gone right. It seems that they are pretending to officially change their name to Topeka.

Actually, the stunt on name changes sent shivers through the many communicites competing to be the first site of Google’s Internet implementation described as being 100 times faster that any other network. Topeka changed their name as their attempt to woo the favor of Google.

I participated in another event in Greenville, SC. See http://www.wearefeelinglucky.com/. That’s me in the bottom of the lower case “g”.

    Cheers,
